What is Statis Pro Baseball?
Statis Pro is a baseball simulation game created by Jim Barnes in the early 1970’s. The game utilizes actual statistics to create player cards which can then be used to play games in an accurate way using the Fast Action Card system in conjunction with charts for clutch plays, unusual plays, and nearly every type of scenario you could witness in a game from rain outs to corked bats.
How did you discover Statis Pro Baseball?
I first fell in love with the game as a child when my father purchased a copy at a local mall. He knew my love of America’s past time and that my uncle enjoyed playing the game so he got it for me. Shortly afterwards a dispute with the MLB forced them to stop producing new sets. Twenty years later, craving some SPB action, I purchased another copy of the game and began enjoying it all over again.
Hasn’t this game been replaced with console and computer games?
Console and computer games may have made it easier to play a game, but that does not mean playing SPB is any less enjoyable than it has always been. No one ever says, “why are you reading a book since movies have replaced antiquated page turning.”
Can you play a full season of games on SPB?
Yes. In fact, most websites you find dedicated to the game are from people playing complete season replays. A modern season of baseball totals about 2,430 games and even playing 100 games a year it would still take me nearly a quarter of a century to complete not including playoffs. I do not have the time for that, so I have therefore dedicated this site to smaller undertakings.
What is included in the game?
Typically the game comes with: a game board with areas for cards as well as charts for different types of plays, base runner pieces, fast action cards which determine how the game progresses, player cards, a set of rules, additional charts for different play types, and scoring sheets.
How is the game played?
Statis Pro Baseball takes the statistics from actual baseball players and utilizes formulas developed specifically for the game to help determine play and game outcomes. Just like in a normal game, a pitcher will throw to a hitter and depending on the stats from both players, the fast action card flip will determine the outcome of the at bat. A hitter like Babe Ruth would be more likely than many other players to hit a home run, but if he is facing a high quality pitcher as opposed to a much less accomplished pitcher, the chances of the home run diminish. The game also takes into account the many different play possibilities in a game, and the additional charts on the game board as well as those not directly in front of you contain a vast array of possibilities.
What is on a player’s card?
There are two types of player cards used in Statis Pro Baseball, pitcher cards and batter cards. The fast action card will determine who has control over the at bat and from there you can determine the outcome of a play. Cards have a vast wealth of information from a player’s likelihood of an injury to how fast they run the bases as well as their clutch defense and arm throwing strength.

What is a Fast Action Card?
A fast action card, or FAC, determines the normal play of a game. FAC cards work in conjunction with pitcher and batters cards to give you the result of an at-bat. Whether the outcome is a home run or a strikeout, whether the play is a ground out to second base or a fly ball to center field, FAC flips are the key to the entire game, and the flip is the source of SPB’s fun.

Where can I get a copy of Statis Pro Baseball?
Although the game is no longer produced, there are still many copies in circulation on the internet. The most likely locations for you to find yourself a version is on Amazon or EBay. Most copies of the game are dedicated to an entire season, but the version I bought several years ago was the Great Teams set with 10 of the best teams in MLB history. For additional team sets there are multiple sites on the internet where you can download teams for free or pay for just the years and teams you want. You can also contact me as I have a multitude of teams to choose from.
