The Bronx Bombers took a quick 3 to nothing lead in the top of the 2^nd from a Bill Skowron homer, but the Tigers battled back with single runs in the 3^rd and 4^th before taking the lead on a 2 run homer by Lance Parrish in the bottom of the 6^th.  The Yankees, not willing to be out done, tied it in the top of the following inning before dropping the winning run in the bottom of the 8^th inning.  The Tigers begin their season victorious with 5 runs on 8 hits and an error.  The 1961 Yankees, playoff favorites to begin the season, drop their first game with 4 runs on 10 hits and 1 error.  Lance Parrish takes player of the game honor going 3 for 4 with a run scored, a home run and driving in 4 of the Tigers 5 runs.
